ECP  - Basic

The ECP - Basic is firmly based and modeled on the Basic Ambulance Assistant course (BAA) as designed and implemented by the HPCSA and accredited by the Health Professions Council of Namibia (HPCNA), intended to be the access level qualification into the Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Upon successful compliance with the examination criteria, delegates will be awarded an OSH-Med International Emergency Care Practitioner – Basic.

To enable the practitioner to manage a wide variety of emergency situations at a BLS level and to recognize when Advanced Life Support (ALS) measures are required and thus should be summoned.

 

ECP – Basic Course Content:​

An introduction to EMS responsibilities with instruction in:

  • Professional Practice

  • Traumatology

  • Emergency Care

  • Ambulance Technology

  • Ambulance Practice

Medical management principles and techniques will be taught to a BLS level including methods of airway control, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the emergency care of critically ill patients.

Delegates will also be introduced to the varying roles of ambulance service administration, rescue and technical support services. 

Duration

  • 6 weeks full-time course (i.e. 120 hours, Monday to Friday; 08h00 – 16h00)

  • Exams will take place in the 6th Week
